The Journey Begins...

There's so much to tell... so where better to start but from the beginning...

The Hoodlums started when a few ordinary people decided to become heroes in their own way, trying to prove to none other but themselves that they can make a difference, be it in a simplest way... shooting people for fun..

From day one, The Hoodlums was always known as a community that consists of not only hard core
paintballers but also friends and families that supported our cause, passion and also dreams to bring a new and exhilarating sport into our state. At that time, we were known as the Penampang Hoodlums, but after a very lengthy discussion we decided that we are not only representing Penampang but are also representing Sabah and Malaysia as a whole. So we changed it to Hoodlums cos it sounds cooler, plus Ben is from Kolombong..=)

We had a hard time at first, carrying loads of doubt trying to pick up players where the main criteria of the team was to be fun and full of heart... well, if we win a few games in the process and kick some ass, that will just be a bonus for us.

After just 3 months playing paintball we thought of joining the
WCA 07 (World Cup Asia) for fun =) i know that sounds really funny to any seasoned player but it wouldn't be a Hoodlums story if it wasn't a bit crazy. The decision to play WCA was seen as outrageous by some and we were even laughed at, just because we wanted to get exposure and experience. We trudged our way through thick and thin, the most of it being thin hehehehe...We placed 3rd from the bottom, but gained priceless experience and super-duper mega exposure, so i think we did meet our target for the trip. Not to mention gaining fellow paintballers as friends and being able to share knowledge gained during the WCA with other paintballers here in Sabah.

When the hype of playing WCA died out, we were seen as a cocky and arrogant team because we dominated the field and shared with other paintball teams what they were doing wrong with the intention of improving their game. When the news of being cocky and arrogant reached our ears, we took the step as a team to play less paintball and keep a low profile because we didn't need the politics in our very small and fragile paintball community. Trust me when i say that it wasn't easy especially the playing less part... =)

Then came the
PPP 3 on 3 tournament it was a small event organised by a local field, after getting so much bad publicity in the paintball community we were hungry once again to win and prove ourselves. We sent three teams; Hoodlums, Hoolums XS and Hoodies. In the end, we earned 1st place and celebrated the accomplishment with smiles, sweat, tears and paint all over our bodies. The prizes weren't that great. 1st place winners were awarded with ......... but we were fine with it because we didn't enter the tourney for the prizes. We entered for recognition and respect.

KK Open Tournament is a part of our life that reminds us of who we are, our struggle and pain that comes with the team. The urge to prove ourselves peaked when we joined The Open. We joined The Open to totally win and shut all the haters up, so that we may be known as a force to be reckoned with in the paintball scene. We placed third there and took it hard. It was like being shot in the balls with an over chronoed marker shooting cheap paint..In layman terms, it means that it hurt like a bitch... After the KK Open, el capitano took some time off reflecting on the loss and the other Hoodlums went haywire, running around like headless chickens shooting the crap out of turkeys....

Until the next post...
Hoodlums...believe and you shall achieve

You left too many things out, like how Hoodlums being seen as a 'TAIKO' team was spurring other teams growth and being the domestic role model for the newly established team (circa Dec2007).

Whatever it is, the path to greatness is never an easy one. Stick true, stick together and surely not much can go wrong!!!

Thousand of smiles beam ur way :)
